First Pictures of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 IS STM Macro Lens
The first pictures of the forthcoming EF-M 28mm f/3.5 IS STM macro lens have appeared via website digicame-info.com. The flurry of online activity surrounding the lens suggests that an official announcement is imminent, and the first look at the actual lens is very interesting indeed. The most obvious inclusion on the lens is the built in macro light. I have to say that I think Canon have nailed the design here. Mirrorless cameras were always supposed to offer shooters superior portability without having to sacrifice the flexibility offered by a choice of interchangeable lenses. There is no denying however that some mirrorless cameras of recent times have taken things in a slightly different direction. Cameras like Sony’s fantastic A7 series or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH series, whilst not being ‘large’ by any means have sacrificed truly compact dimensions in the name of physical control and traditional DSLR style handling. What Canon has done here is take things right back to the root of the original mirrorless vision, portability. with no need to carry around a separate macro light, shooters can keep their system compact and enjoy the added flexibility of still having a light with them. The EF-M 28mm f/3.5 IS STM provides an equivalent focal length of 48mm when used with APS-C sensor cameras such as the EOS-M. Nice work Canon.
