Nikon 200mm Micro-Nikkor Listed As Discontinued – Replacement Soon?
The Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4 was launched way back in 2008 and the Nikon UK website is now showing this as discontinued. Rumors have been floating around for some time that this lens will see an update soon, so this is a good indication that those rumors carry some merit. Most stores seem to have current stock of this lens so it’s likely that this will be sold off through the summer and a replacement may well be revealed at Photokina.
As for how it will differ from the original, I would think the advancements in image stabilization technology are the main thing to benefit macro lenses in recent years. Whilst it’s always nice to use a tripod for macro work, especially at 200mm, I think there’s a case for having VR in this lens now that will deliver 4 or 5-stops of stabilization. This lens also features the old style of textured lens body that Nikon has move away from, so I’m sure there will be cosmetic enhancements to bring it in line with the rest of the Nikkor lineup.
