Latest Kumamoto Earthquake Delay Rumors From Sony, Olympus and Panasonic
There have been more trickles of information this week regarding the ongoing effects of the Kumamoto earthquake, and how it has affected the release schedules of manufacturers utilizing Sony made sensors. The latest rumors, supposedly from reliable sources suggest that Sony, Olympus and Panasonic will be altering their release roadmaps for the year due to the issues surrounding Sony sensor production.
All three manufacturers are now rumored to be delaying the their flagship releases, presumably until sensor supply can once again meet demand. The Panasonic GH5, Olympus EM-1 II and Sony A9 are now expected to be released in early 2017, original reports having suggested they would arrive in time for Photokina this September. The delay does not specifically prevent the three companies from making product announcements, so theoretically we could still be introduced to the new cameras this year. There is however a real possibility that the delay between product announcement and retail availability could be longer than is usually expected.
