Panasonic Lumix DMC GH5 4K, 4:2:2 10-Bit
Hot on the heals of this mornings news that the GH5 will not be announced at either Photokina or IBC next month, we have received some unconfirmed news on the specifications of the mysterious camera. We have been told that the GH5 will record 4K with no crop, and that color sampling will be 4:2:2 10-bit internal. Is it a coincidence that this information has leaked one day after Canon announced the 5D Mark IV, a camera that shoots 4K with a crop factor of 1.7, and 4:2:2 8-bit color sampling? Part of me would love to believe that someone at Panasonic decided to deliberately let this slip to A) Fire a warning shot across the bows of the good ship Canon, and B) Let videographers left disappointed with some of the questionable decisions made regarding the 5D Mark IV’s video capabilities know that Panasonic are taking things rather more seriously.
