Canon Patent Powershot 3.6-255mm F/2.8 With Built in Extender

Canon have patented a nifty new Powershot lens which features its own dedicated extender. The 3.6-255mm f/2.8 has the ability (presumably at the flick of a switch) to become a 1000mm f/10 (35mm equivalent) making it an extremely flexible little package. My only question would be will the camera this is possibly destined for have in body image stabilization, because handholding a Powershot camera at 1000mm could get a little shaky!
