Fuji XF 50MM F/2 R WR Coming on January 19th!
Remember the XF 50MM f/2 R WR that was added to the Fuji XF roadmap last year? We were initially expecting the new premium prime to be announced in November alongside the X-A10 but our hopes were dashed as the month rolled past with no new XF announcement.
Good news has arrived however as we have heard today that the XF 50mm f/2 R WR is to be announced alongside the GFX and X-T20 on January 19th! Put that date in your calendars as it’s going to be a huge day for Fuji fans and photography fans alike!
From Our Previous Coverage:
Hello again Fuji fans! It’s time for us to take a quick look at the third and final Lens added to Fuji’s roadmap at the release of the X-T2 camera at the beginning of this month. So far we have introduced both the XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro and the XF 23mm f/2 R WR, so today it is time to have a look at the forthcoming XF 50mm f/2 R WR.
Fuji currently don’t offer a 50mm prime lens in their XF lineup, the closest currently available being the XF 56mm f/1.2 R Lens. The difference may not seem like much on paper, but when you take into account 35mm equivalent focal lengths, 75mm for the 50mm, and 85mm for the 56mm you can see why it is still important to make the distinction. Both lenses do however fit squarely into a focal range bracket that is used extensively by portrait photographers, so we can assume they are targeted at the same audience overall.
The bump down to f/2.0 on the XF 50mm lens should help keep the price down in comparison to its faster sibling, and in keeping with the other lenses added to the roadmap the XF 50mm f/2 also gets a weather resistant construction.
The Fuji XF 50mm f/2 R WR will, according to the lens roadmap, arrive at some point during 2017, so stay tuned for more information as and when it becomes available.
