Leica Unveils Limited Edition Red Anodized APO-Summicron 50mm

Leica has unveiled a new limited edition version of the APO-SUmmicron-M 50mm lens. The lens is anodized red, and only 100 will be made available worldwide. Considering the limited nature of this lens, the mere $2000 ($9750) premium over the regular black version is actually quite a surprise. I’m sure collectors will be scrambling to get this lens because it will surely surpass its initial value almost immediately. I’d think it unlikely we’ll see this lens in the large online stores such as Amazon or B&H Photo. For this one, you’ll have to go hunting around in the official...

Leica M10 Photos Leaked!

Last week we brought you news that a mysterious M10 camera from Leica was undergoing the approval process for wireless devices in China, and today, photos of the camera have been leaked. Two interesting things come out of this confirmation: Firstly, there’s clearly an ISO dial on the camera next to the viewfinder, something no digital Leica has carried before. Secondly, the name of the camera really does appear to be the M10. This is odd because Leica gave up on the M7, M8, M9 naming scheme a few years ago in favour of the Leica M (Typ240) style...

Is Canon FINALLY Going to Add Focus Peaking to DSLRS?

The lack of focus peaking on Canon DSLRs has been a pet peeve of mine for many years. It’s such a simple feature, and yet Canon have so far failed to implement it on any DSLR, even ones like the 5D Mark IV which they claim to be cameras suitable for professional filmmakers. For those that don’t know, focus peaking is simply a visual tool that outlines the in-focus areas of an image on the LCD screen to aid with manual focusing. Fuji X100f Is on Its Way

The Fuji X100 line has always been hugely popular and with the X100T having been recently discontinued, many people are getting excited for the upcoming Fuji X100F which will replace it. As a previous X100 owner myself, I can attest to the brilliance of these little cameras. Whilst some people would consider the fixed focal length lens to be a disadvantage, what it offers keen photographers, is a way to get a new camera from a brand that’s not necessarily their primary brand. I see a lot of Canon and Nikon users using the X100 as their “pocket” camera,...

Variable Low Pass Filter Patent from Canon

Low pass filters sit in front of a camera’s sensor and help to prevent moiré in images that contain specific tightly condensed patterns. In recent years we have seen several manufacturers deliver camera’s without an optical low pass filter because it increases the sensor’s ability to produce fine detail. In some cases, like Canon with their 5Ds and 5DsR, manufacturers have made two cameras available, both with, and without the low pass filter. Most information seems to suggest that in this situation, sales of the cameras without the low pass filter have been much higher. In fact, rumors already...

Did Nikon Screw Up the New 70-200 FL ED VR?

Nikon recently launched a new version of the the 70-200 f/2.8. This new version, called the AF-S 70-200 f/2.8 FL ED VR, has two instantly noticeable negatives about it: The $2800 price tag is a huge leap ahead of its predecessor, and also above the price of Canon’s 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II, a lens which is known to be an absolutely stellar performer. They have switched the positions of the zoom ring and focus ring around so that the zoom ring is now on the front of the lens. More on this below… The Zoom Issue Pretty much every...

Fuji Instax Square Format Camera Teaser

The Fuji Instax cameras are a surprisingly large part of Fuji’s camera business, so it’s no surprise that we’ve seen them expanding things in recent months to first include black and white film, and now a new square format. No word yet on release date, but I’m sure they will be targeting massive holiday sales with this...

Sony RX100 V to be Released Imminently!

Just a couple of weeks ago, Mr Blue was pondering the whereabouts of the Sony RX100 V point and shoot camera. The earthquakes in Japan threw Sony’s release schedule out of line this year, and a camera that was thought to be on the verge of launching at the beginning of the summer, seemed to have vanished from the release cycles. All that could be about to change though as well-connected Japanese camera blog, Nokishita, are today reporting that the RX100 V, along with the Sony A6500, will be the next releases from the Japanese brand. Not only that,...

Insanely Impressive DJI Mavic Pro Video

Just a few days after GoPro announced their Karma drone, DJI fought back with the new Mavic Pro and GoPro’s stocks instantly fell 6%. GoPro has a lot riding on the Karma drone, but it was always going to be an uphill battle to fight the established drone king, DJI. On the launch day, YouTube video blogger and daily drone user, Casey Neistat, took the Mavic Pro for a spin in New York (and in his office). As a drone owner myself, I was stunned by what I saw in this video. Neistat’s reaction shows that he was too. The Mavic is like something out of a science fiction...
