Patent: Canon looks to Introduce Dual Image Stabilization to Lenses

A patent has surfaced today which shows that Canon is working on a dual group image stabilization system for their lenses. The patented system appears to add an extra image stabilization group within the lens barrel itself which would become active dependant on processed distance information, and at certain magnification ratios. It sounds like perhaps the system is geared towards helping shooters using large zoom and telephoto lenses achieve greater image sharpness. Other manufacturers are already using Dual IS systems, so it makes sense that Canon would want to remain competitive by introducing their own similar IS solutions.
