Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 DO Patent Published

A further Canon diffractive optical lens patent has surfaced, this time depicting a 70-200mm f/2.8 unit. The patent literature itself seems to talk a lot about the lens’ cinema capabilities, which has sparked some fantastically far fetched rumors; One site had gone as far as to suggest that this is proof of an 8k DSLR being in the works from Canon. You can be sure that Canon has an eye on future cinema and photography technology, and that they will always be aiming to be at the forefront of the industry, but consumer level 8k video needs far more than lens patents to make it a viable proposition right now. It is however great to once again see evidence of Canon’s push towards diffractive optical technology in their lenses.
