DxOMark Results for Canon 1D X Mark II – New Canon Record!
The camera testing website DxO Mark have completed their testing on the new Canon flagship, the 1D X Mark II, and the results are impressive. The flagship camera scored an 88, the highest score of any Canon camera, and notably out-performed the Nikon D5.
The result is great news for Canon fans because it’s clear that big strides have been made in sensor design, something which will undoubtedly filter down into 5D Mark IV and 6D Mark II which we expect to see in the next few months. The original 1D X delivered 11.8 stops of dynamic range at base ISO, but the 1D X Mark II delivered an impressive 13.5 stops. Dynamic range has been the Achilles’ heel for Canon sensors in the last few years but it seems they have clawed back some major ground in this area. All of the rumors suggested this was the case in the run up to the camera’s launch, but oddly Canon didn’t mention dynamic range or sensor design at all in the marketing materials. Thankfully these results confirm the initial rumors, so I guess Canon were simply being cautious without knowing the exact performance of the Nikon D5 at the time.
They seem to have a real hit on their hands with this camera, we’ve hardly found a bad word spoken about it since it launched!
