Leica Discontinues the Leica X Vario and Leica T

Leica has discontinued both the Leica X Vario, and the Leica T mirrorless cameras. Both units used the same 16 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, with the X Vario featuring a fixed Leica Vario-Elmar 18-46mm f/3.6-5.6 lens, and the Leica T compact system camera mounting Leica T lenses.

We have previously heard rumors that a new Leica T-series camera is on the way, presumably to be announced at Photokina, and indeed a mysterious Leica has already been registered at the Indonesian Radio Agency. Further information has not yet become available however, and the identity of the mysterious camera has become even more clouded by rumors suggesting that a new Leica M-Series camera might be announced at Photokina too.

My gut feeling is that we will indeed see a new Leica T-Series next month, but we will have to wait a little longer before we see another addition the the M-series of cameras.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
