Canon are Working on a Curved Sensor Design

A recently published Canon patent has revealed that the company are working on a design for a curved sensor. The patent describes a sensor system which is specifically aimed at reducing vignetting artifacts and works by introducing a curve to the outer edges of the sensor, where light quantity is at its lowest. The central area of the sensor, where light transmission is at its highest remains flat in profile.
