Sony Developing an FE 400mm Telephoto Prime Lens

Sony Developing an FE 400mm Telephoto Prime Lens

Following the launch of the Sony A9, a camera destined to be used by sports and wildlife photographers the world over, it was almost a certainty that we would begin to hear rumors of new long reach lenses from the Japanese manufacturer.

Two separate sources have now claimed that Sony are working on a FE 400mm lens, although it is unclear if the lens will be an f/2.8 or an f/4.0. The most recent of the two claims had the following to say on the subject:

I heard from Source that Sony seems to be developing 400mm F2.8. But he does not have much confidence in this information, so please take it with a grain of salt.

It is plausible that Sony are testing both specifications before settling on a retail unit, but it seems to be a safe bet that a 400mm is coming. If Sony want to attract more users from the likes of Canon and Nikon then they need to be making these kind of lenses.
