So What Can we Expect From The D850?

So the D850 is officially being developed, but in reality we have only vague impressions of what to expect from Nikon’s next full frame DSLR. Other than some shiny marketing rhetoric from Nikon themselves stating that the D850 will be “high-resolution“, “high-speed“, and designed for shooting “commercial sports” all we really know is that it will be better than the D810 and aimed at a different audience to the D5. Here is a list of suspected specifications for the D850:

  • 45-46MP full frame CMOS sensor
  • Upwards of 8fps burst mode
  • Improved low and high ISO
  • New and improved version of SnapBridge
  • No built-in GPS
  • Tilt-able LCD touchscreen
  • Dual Memory card slots: one SD and one XQD
  • AF system from the D5
  • No built-in flash (See leaked images)
  • Back illuminated buttons (See leaked images)
  • Joystick selector(See leaked images)
  • Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
  • 8K time-lapse video capabilities
  • 4k UHD video in FX format (with no crop)

If all the above are true then it sounds like a pretty awesome camera. Nikon need some potential Sony A9 to jump onboard but ‘Upwards of 8fps’, for sports shooters at least, and despite a higher overall resolution, may not be enough.
