Canon have published a few interesting patents recently, and the following is a snapshot of just a few of the exciting products the company are currently working on.

Optical Viewfinder for Mirrorless Camera

This patent is particularly interesting as it seems to depict a device which is sits beteween the camera and the lens, which contains the mirror assembly traditionally associated with SLR type cameras. Essentially a device which takes your mirrorless camera, and turns it into a DSLR. The unit also appears to contain a dedicated phase detection autofocus sensor.

A device which robs a mirrorless camera of all it’s inherant advantages???? Yes please!

EF 15MM F/4 and EF-M 9.5MM F/4

The second patent contains details of two new wide-angle prime lenses one for EF mount cameras, and one for EF-M mount cameras. Both lenses are based on the same optical formula, with 35mm equivalance accounting for the difference in focal length.

The final patent four new fast EF mount primes, it is likely that the 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8 will replace the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM The EF85mm f/1.4. The 85mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/1.8 are new formulas entirely.
