Canon Aim for 50% Marketshare of Entire ILC Market
Well well well, Canon really are on the warpath this week! There are full frame mirrorless cameras out in the field being tested, commitments to shifting company focus towards mirrorless development, and now statements of clear intent to dominate the mirrorless marketplace.
In their recent corporate stratagy conference Canon have layed down the following gauntlet:
… in our core camera business, in addition to our overwhelming share of the DSLR market, we will go on the offensive and work to expand our sales in the mirrorless camera market, which is exhibiting remarkable growth. This will allow us to reach our goal of 50% marketshare of the entire interchangeable lens camera market.
Canon have redily admitted that even they have recognised an increase in sales of their rather spartan collection of EOS M cameras, and it is beginning to sound like Canon really are beginning to rally against Sony and Co’s pentration into the overal ILC market over the past 24 months.
Exciting times, this can only mean that big announcements from Cannon, never a company to run their mouths with out some substance to back up the words, are on the horizon. Key question however…. With the majority of mirrorless sales going to Asia, will we get to play with the new toys?
